“Non-Composition,” a Solo Show by Kris Ohlinger at Manichaus
McAllen, TX: Kris Ohlinger will be presenting his solo show “Non-Composition: New Work by Kris Ohlinger” at Manichaus (pronounced: manic house), a new artist-run modern art space in McAllen, from June 6 to 27, 2008. A reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 6, 2008. Manichaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in McAllen. Admission is free.
Ohlinger’s new work is an exploration on composition and its various conceptual manifestations. The central composition he aims to explore is that which is suggestive of constituents and the wholes they contribute to. From this he linguistically branches to musical composition, writing composition and art composition in almost a low level pun but which he hopes to tie in to their parent concept.
“The use of NON-COMPOSITION is again taking liberties with our language and I hope to impart the duality of the concept and its negation in various mixtures throughout the show,” Ohlinger said. “In an art history vein there is a comfortable grouping with "systems art" of the '60s and '70s and recent shows regarding complexity.”
Gallery hours are: Tuesday through Friday, 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm; and Saturdays by appointment. Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@blackrabbitworks.com for more information.
